Poem — A poem dedicated to all mothers around the world. Why wait for Mother’s day for a dedication? We love them all days don’t we???

Cometh the rise of the morning sun
She’ll be seen on her usual run
Washing, cleaning and making lunch
How she manages it all I have no hunch

Running around like all’s on fire
Fighting battle after battle of lunchboxes, school buses and a young adult’s ire
Shouts aloud with all her heart “I love you”
Though she may not even get a turn around with the words “Thank you”

She may be a Shikha, Cathy, Nafisa or a Li
Whatever the religion or language it may be
The truth is out there for all to see that a mother nourishes
A family flourishes

So much of care is in that cove of love
Even loving an unborn like a part of themselves sent from above
Everybody’s first so she’s always last
If there isn’t enough food left she’ll be on a fast

Writhing in pain
Nothing to gain
Just keeps giving to her children until her ashes remain

It’s a preloaded software in a woman I guess
To bake a cake on her own birthday and stitch her own dress
The irony though is she asks her son “which flavour do you like”
And to the daughter who tries “Is that gown too tight?”

Mother o’ mother god does reside in you
It’s high time now, your recognition is long overdue
A true gift you are from god to mankind
You weave a soul in us while he sends us with just a body and mind
